The Scottish/Irish folk tune ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ conjures imagery of a past age in the highlands, about as stark a contrast as you can get with bustling city life. In many ways though, the tale of hopeful young romance resonates with all of us; and so we reimagined this tale - transporting it into the unlikely setting of a student bar. The original chorus is fused with our own hip-hop inspired groove, imprinting the new sounds of Leeds onto the 18th century story.

The student bar, a wonderful web of contradictions
Where bright eyes and tired lips spin their own fictions
That's where we met in the depths of last night,
On a hazy rubble of spilt beer and vivid light
You laughed when I wrote that down in my notes app
‘Cos no one talks like that I need to strip it back
Now you thought I was just another pretentious writer
And I thought you were just another naive fighter
We grinned giddily ‘cos we both knew we were so see-through
But there was something so forgiving ‘bout the look of you
So I spent the night in your garden made of stone
And we watched the sprawling city crackle and moan

Now look there at the end of your garden in between the stones
See that skinny plant as it struggles on its own
Well the shape of it reminds me of my much younger days
Clambering over earth to watch the sticky stems sway
So I wonder over, and feel that sweet scent of wild thyme
Wrap itself around my chest, try my best not to laugh at this sight
So far in to city lines
You catch my silly gaze and pour out another wine
